CNPC Economics & Technology Research Institute (ETRI), a decision-making support organization directly under China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), is mainly engaged in development strategy research. It was officially recognized as one of the first pilot units in China’s building of state high-end think tanks in 2015, making it the only enterprise think tank among them. In 2016, by becoming the deputy secretary-general unit of the Central Enterprise Think Tank Alliance, it put in place a high-end scientific research system providing important decision-making support for the state, ministries and commissions, and CNPC.

In the course of more than 50 years of development, ETRI has always been committed to its mission of providing energy information and decision-making support. We have established a comprehensive scientific research system, and made a large number of significant research achievements. Currently, we focus on 67 research subjects in 28 research specialties in 9 research fields, namely, research on macro-economy & energy industry, research on company development and reform, research on oil market and marketing, research on natural gas market and marketing, research on geopolitics and international management, research on technology development and innovation management, research on intellectual property and technology evaluation, research on brand and soft power, and research on information resource development and intelligent application. In recent years, to build ETRI into a high-end think tank, we have made unremitting efforts to deliver high-end results, cultivate high-end talents and cement our foundation for scientific research. We keep enhancing our strategic planning capabilities, intelligent analysis capabilities and rapid response capabilities, and have developed a series of superior, featured products, best represented by think tank reports, high-end conferences and international forums, comprehensive research reports, and information reports. Dozens of our research subjects have received provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, and many of our viewpoints and suggestions have been adopted by relevant national ministries and commissions, demonstrating our significant role in decision-making support.
